Needs Analysis Report published within the FarmForward project

Within the international project FarmForward – Sustainable and Transformative Strategies for Climate-Resilient Farming in VET, the report WP2 “Needs Analysis Report” has been successfully developed as one of the key project outcomes.

The report was prepared jointly by the FarmForward project partners from five European Union countries and focuses on the analysis of educational and competence needs related to climate-resilient farming, with particular attention to the vocational education and training (VET) sector. It addresses the growing impact of climate change on agricultural systems and the increasing demand for new skills and knowledge among current and future agricultural professionals.

The main objective of the report was to identify current challenges, competence gaps, and training priorities among teachers, trainers, learners, students, farmers, and other stakeholders involved in agricultural education. Special emphasis was placed on practical skills, innovative teaching approaches, and the integration of sustainability and climate adaptation into existing curricula.

The research was conducted using a mixed-method approach, including surveys, interviews, and focus groups, and it reflects multiple perspectives on the adaptation of agriculture to climate change at local, national, and European levels. This approach ensured a comprehensive understanding of both institutional and practical needs within the VET ecosystem.

The findings of the needs analysis provide a solid foundation for the next project activities, including the development of training programmes and educational materials that support the acquisition of skills related to sustainable and climate-resilient farming practices. The results will directly inform the design of innovative learning tools and capacity-building actions for VET providers and learners.

The FarmForward project is funded under the Erasmus+ Programme and aims to strengthen the role of vocational education in preparing the agricultural sector to address climate-related and environmental challenges, while supporting the long-term resilience and competitiveness of European agriculture.
